The International Conference “Dickinson and Ecologies” will be held at National Chengchi University (NCCU) in 2025.

National Chengchi University is located in the picturesque Wenshan District of Taipei, surrounded by abundant greenery, which is directly relevant to our conference topic — “Dickinson and Ecologies”. Nearby, you’ll discover the mesmerizing “Maokong,” which can allow you to escape into the nature, and savor traditional tea culture while enjoying panoramic views of the Taipei City. Even the most casual perusal of the lush terrain must engage those long horizontal lines of evergreen tea shrubs stacked one upon the other across multitudinous inclines of deep-green foliage. If one hikes up one of the numerous trails to Daoist temple or peak, one is sure to see how intricate drainage and engineering structures have reshaped the landscape to make the ground resilient to landslides. In short, Wenshan is a site in which civilization and wilderness overlap in obvious and not so obvious ways. The literary quality of the mountains denotes, therefore, the careful cultivation that the human hand exerts upon its surroundings. Yet Wenshan’s mountains are still wild and thankfully so. Clans of monkeys roam the trees. Snakes seek to warm themselves when unobserved by human eyes. Thousands of species engage in their own time-honored traditions, building communities that overlap only occasionally with the human order ever-seeking to impress itself in tea, rice, architecture, and commerce. Moreover, the campus is near by “Shenkeng Old Street”, where conference attendees can savor authentic Taiwanese street food and explore traditional crafts during your visit to Taiwan, especially stinky tofu. “Taipei Zoo” is another prominent attraction that is easily accessible from National Chengchi University, allowing you to witness a diverse range of animals and immerse yourself in the nature. Additionally, the nearby “Zhinan Temple” (or Chih Nan Temple) offers a serene sanctuary where worship with the Immortals of Daoism — Lu Dongbin, providing an opportunity for you to experience Taiwan’s traditional temple culture. .
